What’s the first thing you think of when someone says Los Angeles? Is it, the Hollywood sign, Disneyland, the beach? Pretty sure that public transit is definitely not one of them, especially with all the traffic LA is known for. What if I told you LA has a vast public transit network. Sprawling just like its city to almost every corner of the city. Los Angeles has a pretty vast bus network run by multiple agencies, and a frequently expanding railway network to take you around the city.

What if I told you that the Los Angeles Metro system has over 100 bus routes covering roughly over 1,445 miles and a rail network of over 105 miles. Keep in mind, that’s just Metro. The greater Los Angeles area also has many other transit agencies such as Foothill Transit, Long Beach Transit, Santa Monica Big Blue Bus, Culver City Bus, Torrance Transit, Pasadena Transit, and Norwalk Transit, to name a few. Most agencies accept “TAP” which is the fare payment smart card used in the greater Los Angeles area.
(Check out the link to see where TAP is accepted.)

Today, we will be talking about Metro, particularly Metro Rail, which currently has 6 lines in service.
A line (Long Beach to Azusa via Downtown LA)
B line (North Hollywood to Union Station)
C line (LAX to Norwalk)
D line (Koreatown to Union Station)
E line (Santa Monica to East LA via Downtown LA)
K line (South LA to Redondo Beach)
Metro also has two busways that are also assigned letters.
G line (North Hollywood to Chatsworth)
J line (San Pedro to El Monte via Downtown LA)
Many of LA’s top attractions are served by the current Metro system such as the Hollywood Walk of Fame, popular with tourists. Downtown LA’s prestigious art museums like The Broad. Or the Santa Monica pier just a short walk from the Downtown Santa Monica station. Check out the Metro planner on Metro’s website to get help on getting to your destination. (Link below)

These and many more are accessible via Metro Rail. One of the many reasons I personally like taking Metro Rail is because it’s pretty convinient to use, and frequent. If I want to go grab a few drinks with my friends in the Arts District I can just hop on a train up the street from my house and hop off at Little Tokyo/Arts District Station and take a short walk to the “Angels City Brewery.” One of my favorite places in the Arts district. Metro rail offered a quick and easy ride to many popular destinations throughout the city.

With many more expansion coming soon, more of the cities neighborhoods and attractions will soon be esily accessible. LA may be known for its obnoxious traffic and parking situations, but you can avoid it by taking Metro to your destination.
